A 28-year-old groom was accused of sexually assaulting a bridesmaid two days before the wedding.
In a report by The Morning Call, the alleged sexual abuse happened in the men’s locker room at the Shawnee Inn in Monroe County last August 30.
In the report, the suspect was identified as Daniel J. Carney of Stroudsburg.
Charges for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of an unconscious person, simple assault and indecent assault were filed against Carney. He had been released on $100,000 unsecured bail.
In the criminal complaint, the 29-year-old bridesmaid said the abuse happened after they had a day of drinking and rafting on the Delaware River.
The victim said she got so intoxicated while they were rafting that she could not stand on her own.
The victim said it was Carney’s wife who told him help her out of the raft and into the parking lot.
The victim narrated how she was led away from the water. She said she woke up in the locker room with Carney allegedly biting her and forcefully grabbing her.
The victim said she passed out again and woke up with the man on top of her.
During the investigation, Carney initially denied the accusations against him. He said he was extremely intoxicated and alleged that it was the woman who took advantage of him.
The suspect later changed his story and admitted he had actually grabbed the woman’s arms and pulled her in, police said.
In the surveillance footage, Carney was seen pulling the woman into the locker room.Police also reviewed text messages and a phone call where Carney apologized to the woman. (CC)
