Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao may return to action in February next year possibly against American Danny Garcia, said Freddie Roach, the Pacman’s long-time coach.
“He’ll be back. I believe in February. They’re talking about that but I’m not sure how close they are at getting it. Danny Garcia looks like a good fight,” Roach told fighthype.com per a report by inquirer.net.
In previous interviews, Roach said he would prefer Errol Spence to be Pacquiao’s opponent but later zeroed in on Garcia. Spence is still recuperating from injuries that he suffered from a car accident, which happened shortly after his win over Shawn Porter.
The 31-year-old Garcia, who is coming from a seventh-round technical knockout win over Adrian Granados, was at ringside when Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman last June in Las Vegas.
Garcia lost to Porter and Thurman. Porter is a former sparring mate of Pacquiao, who is turning 41 in December.
