Gilas Pilipinas leaves for Spain to tune up for FIBA World Cup

Gilas Pilipinas team is leaving for Spain today for a string of tune-up games in preparation for the FIBA World Cup this month.

Only 10 players will be joining the trip to Guadalajara and a pocket tournament in Madrid.

According to Coach Yeng Guiao, this is a crucial moment for the team especially that they are already missing a handful of players to the PBA Finals.

Its forward Raymond Almazan who will not be joining them in this trip since his visa was denied. Their guard Kiefer Ravena, who is joining the trip has not yet been cleared by FIBA to participate in friendly matches. Stanley Pringle is still nursing a minor ankle injury.

Aside from Spain, the team may face either Congo or the Ivory Coast in the pocket tournament.

The team will leave Europe after eight days and will return to the country for a couple of more friendly games before they go up against China later this month.
