The Philippines on Wednesday, August 29, raked its fourth gold medal in the Asian Games, thanks to 19-year-old skateboarder Margielyn Didal.
Didal won the women’s skateboarding street event at the JSC Skateboard Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia after scoring a total of 30.4 points.
Sportswriter Yoyo Sarmenta explained that skateboaring is composed of five runs with the highest and lowest runs removed and the three remaining runs recorded
Didal showed off her tricks early on and scored 14.2 points after her first two runs.

The young skateboarder secured the lead after her third run at 27.5 with the second placer nowhere near at 17 points.

Didal’s fourth and fifth runs were also impressive, allowing her to secure a gold medal finish.

Didal’s gold finish comes after other Filipino female athletes won gold in their respective sports – Hidilyn Diaz in weightlifting, Yuka Saso in golf, and the trio of Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go in golf as well.
