Doctors in Dubai have reconstructed the larynx and trachea using cartilage graft to help a 3-year-old boy breathe normally.
The doctors at the Dubai Hospital restored the breathing of a 3-year-old boy from GCC who faced obstruction of the larynx since birth and experienced severe shortness of breath.

The child who was operated upon immediately after birth in his home country had a tube for a breathing pathway.
The Dubai Hospital which has expertise in complex ENT surgeries conducted an in-depth diagnosis to perform a laryngotracheoplasty surgery for a permanent, stable airway for the child to breathe through without the need of a breathing tube.

Surgeons reconstructed the larynx and the trachea using a cartilage graft taken from the child’s thoracic cage.
Dr Jamal Kassouma, Consultant ENT Surgeon at Dubai Hospital said the two-hour laryngotracheoplasty surgery was performed four months ago for which they also placed a stent in the trachea to hold it in position for a few months which was removed few days back enabling the child to breathe and speak normally.
