After defending Health Secretary Francisco Duque from resignation calls, President Rodrigo Duterte now says that he will accept Duque’s voluntary resignation.
“Kung si Duque will offer to resign voluntarily, tatanggapin ko. Pero kung sasabihin mo na ako magsasabi na magresign ka, that will never happen,” Duterte said in a speech.

Last August 16, Duterte repeatedly said that he will not accept Duque’s resignation.
“Alam ko gusto mo nang mag-resign, pero alam mo rin na tatanggihan kita ngayon. Noon you have attempted to resign twice. I expect you to say something to me after this, mag-resign ka. Sabihin ko sa iyo, hindi. Wala ka namang ginawang masama,” Duterte said.

Duterte said that he is ready to defend Duque even if this would affect his political career.
“Maski kaming dalawa ni Duque and the rest of the Philippines, I will stand by him. Kung nasira ako, eh di nasira. But I will never abandon a person just like that,” he said. (TDT)
