The proponents of the project will reach out to residents, restaurant owners, and hotels to recycle their cooking oil waste.

Al Katheeri added that secure containers will be provided for homeowners to dispose of their used oils.

A licensed recycling company will bring the containers to the collection center.

The used cooking oil will be treated using fatty acid to produce biodiesel, he said.

The Tadweer’s Waste to Energy Plant is currently under construction in coordination with Abu Dhabi Power Corporation’s subsidiary Emirates Water and Electricity Company.

He said the new plant will enable Tadweer to divert around 600,000 tonnes of waste annually.

Al Katheeri noted a project to produce biofuels from sustainable aviation fuel, biodiesel and methanol are also in the works.

Tadweer eyes to recycle 80 percent of its solid waste and 100 percent treat its hazardous waste by 2030. (RA)
