Saudi Arabia, UAE to cooperate for human rights advocacy

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation especially in the field of human rights, Arab News reported.

The UAE Ambassador Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al-Nahyan visited Saudi Human Rights Commission (SHRC) President Dr. Awwad Al-Awwad in Riyadh wherein they both highlighted the efforts of the nations to support human rights.

The SHRC president has discussed the Kingdom’s development in the matter under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—noting that it is also in line with their Saudi Vision 2030 reform plan.

Ambassador Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al-Nahyan, for his part, said that their “Year of Tolerance” celebration is the country’s biggest move to advance human rights. The YOT aims to develop programs for promoting diversity and supporting other cultures.

In a report by Arab News, the UAE Embassy in Saudi Arabia has launched a two-day exhibition at the Cultural Palace in Riyadh last April in line with this celebration.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have close ties, cooperating on many issues including working to ensure peace in the region.

“The qualitative cultural movement in Saudi Arabia and the UAE is a message of mutual tolerance from the two brotherly countries,” Arab News quoted Al-Nahyan as saying.
