Dengue fever becomes deadly if not detected early.
Deaths caused by dengue may now be prevented after a group of Filipino scientists invented a diagnostic kit that will determine if a patient is having dengue fever.
The Department of Science and Technology commissioned research and development company Manila Health Tek to come up with the diagnostic kit.
The kit includes apparatus that can detect dengue virus from the patient’s blood sample.
In an abs-cbn.com report, Kristine Destura, research scientist ng Manila Health Tek, the kit is capable of diagnosing dengue in just an hour.
“As early as one day ng fever ng inyong anak, ay maaari niyo na itong maipa-test,” Destura said in the report.
The company is now finding ways to make the kit more affordable and easy to use so it can be utilized by barangay health center.
These kits are already available in close to 10,000 hospitals in the country.
Health Tek is already conducting seminars to train health practitioners on how to use the kit.
