Top 6 iconic Pinoy love teams in the 80’s: Where are they now?

Remember that scene where Sharon Cuneta caught Gabby Concepcion staring at her in “PS: I Love You”? Those days when everyone fell off their chairs when Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez announced on live television that they were getting married? Or that time when you laugh hysterically at Maricel Soriano and William Martinez, aka “Taray and Kulit”?

Almost 40 years since the 80’s, here’s a look at where these “love birds” are now and the things that keep them busy in 2018!

1 Aga Muhlach and Janice de Belen

The pair made waves during their teenage years when Janice confessed on a live television interview that “God was with us when we did it.” The pair had a son, Igi Boy, but had since moved on from each other.

Nowadays, Janice recently played the role of Aida Asuncion in My Korean Jagiya. Aside from her acting career, Janice also takes some interest in cooking.

2 Albert Martinez and Snooky Serna

The pair was one of the most popular love teams in the 80s especially when the pair became a real-life romantic couple while filming their movie “Summer Love” . Although their relationship was short-lived, this couple was, and still is, one of the first things that would pop to minds when talking about love teams in the Philippines.

Albert Martinez lost his eventual wife Liezl Sumilang a few years ago. In an Instagram post, Martinez called Sumilang his “wife, partner, best friend”.

Snooky meanwhile was married for 12 years to Ricardo Cepeda. They had two daughters Sam and Sachi, however, the couple broke up since then. Snooki got married again, this time with Niño Mendoza, vocalist of a Filipino Alternative Rock band. However, the marriage did not work as well.

3 Dina Bonnevie and Vic Sotto

In 1981, everyone was talking about Dina Bonnevie and Vic Sotto when the movie “Age Doesn’t Matter” was released. The two eventually got together and had two children, Danica and Oyo. The couple’s marriage eventually fell apart and the two has since re-married other partners.

Dina married former Ilocos Sur Vice Governor Deogracias Victor Savellano in 2011.

Meanwhile, Dina’s former other half, Vic is also now married to TV host and actress Pauleen Luna. The two have one baby girl named Paulina Sotto.

4 Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon

Unlike the first three couples above, Vilma and Christopher never became a real-life couple. However, this did not lessen the chemistry and drama between the two in the movies “Relasyon, “Sinasamba Kita,” “Paano Ba Ang Mangarap” and “Broken Marriage.”

The two continuously produced movies together since 2002 with the classic “Dekada 70”.

Today, Vilma serves as the Representative of the Lone District of Lipa, Batangas and is a wife to Senator Ralph Recto.

Christopher is married to actress Sandy Andolong and they have three children – Maria Angelica, Gabriel, and Miguel.

5 Maricel Soriano and William Martinez

Maricel and William were two of the most versatile actors of their era. Although the two were more popular with their roles in romantic comedy films “Galawgaw” and “I Love You, I Hate You”, the two actually first paired together in tearjerker movie “Oh My Mama”.

The two also reunited in 2009 for ABS-CBN’s Florinda.

Maricel still wears the crown of being one of the best actresses in the history of Philippine show business. However, she is currently not very active on social media and only appears on television and movies from time to time.

6 Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta

Last but definitely not the least, the classic Sharon and Gabby. It is probable that only 2% of the Philippine population were not affected by the Sharon-Gabby McDonalds throwback commercial.

The pair started in 1981 movie “Dear Heart” which coincidentally was Sharon’s first movie as well. The pair then became arguably the “most popular” pair in the 80’s. Eventually, they became a real-life romantic couple and got married in 1984.

The two were blessed with a daughter, actress KC Concepcion. However, the two eventually separated.

Sharon is currently married to Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who she has two daughters with. She also recently served as a judge-slash-mentor in the Filipino version of The Voice franchise.
