Actress Jessy Mendiola recalled her unfortunate encounter with fellow Kapamilya star Enrique Gil back in 2015 when they boarded a plane bound for England.
It can be recalled that Gil caused a mid-flight commotion in September 2015 when he, together with other Kapamilya stars, were on their way to London to stage the “ASAP Live in London” show.
Entertainment websites reported that Gil had a little too much to drink and started making a scene on the plane. He then started bothering Mendiola who was on the same flight, then lashed out when the latter told him off.
The incident even caused TV host Luis Manzano to step in to try to break the fight. Gil’s on-screen partner also tried to calm the actor down but he only shouted expletives at her.
Gil has since admitted his mistakes and apologized for what he did.
Three years after the reported altercation, Mendiola decided to speak up about her side of the story for the first time.
The actress said in an interview with PEP.ph that the incident caused her trauma and depression, but she has already moved on from what happened.
However, she said that she never got a direct personal apology from Gil.
“Nag-move on na ako. May mga bagay… ikaw din kasi ang mahihirapan, e, kapagka hindi mo ni-let go yung mga ganung bagay. And now, okay na ako, e. May mas malala pang bagay na nangyari sa akin.
“And halata naman siguro na happy ako ngayon and yung mga dating nangyari, hayaan na natin yun. Pero ako, I strongly advise na kapag andoon ka sa posisyon na yun, kapagka nangyari sa ‘yo yung situation na yun [depresyon], huwag mo lang hahayaan,” she said.
The actress opted not to give further details about the incident but she did say that she felt harassed and violated at that moment.
Mendiola added that she has kept her distance from Gil ever since the incident happened. She also said that their management, Star Magic, no longer allows them to be in the same room together.
“They’re very sensitive naman about it. And para sa akin, if magkasalubong… actually, nakikita ko naman siya from afar, pero wala kaming time lang o walang pagkakataon na nag-uusap kami,” she said.
Mendiola was also asked if she is open to the idea on working on a television or movie project with Gil in the future, but she only gave an indirect answer.
“Tingnan natin… tingnan natin,” she said.
Nevertheless, Mendiola emphasized that she is in a happy state right now.
Mendiola will be starring in the official Metro Manila Film Festival 2018 entry “The Girl in the Orange Dress”, together with Jericho Rosales.
