If songs like “Cool Ka Lang”, “Prinsesa”, “Mangarap Ka”, “Na Naman”, and “Pagsubok” are on your daily playlist – the voices behind these iconic throwback OPM hits will be coming to Dubai for a huge concert!
‘90s Upload will be featuring Cooky Chua of Color it Red, Glenn Jacinto of Teeth, Lei Bautista of Prettier Than Pink, Naldy Padilla of Orient Pearl, and Wency Cornejo of Afterimage in the concert organized by La Verdad Events Management happening this December 28 at the Dubai World Trade Center.
In a digital press conference aired via the Wishbus, all five artists delighted the press and VIP guests with a quick sample of their greatest hits.
Cornejo shared that the nostalgic feeling of happiness and the reminder of an individual’s more carefree days is what keeps listeners hooked to throwback hits: “When you’re younger you listen to a certain kind of music, and when you grow up, you still want to hear yung mga songs nay an – like ako for example I listen to 80’s music and up to this day 80’s music pa rin yung gusto kong pinakikinggan ko. Nostalgic kasi talaga – the word itself connotes that you look back, and looking back entails digging through your memory banks of what happened during the time when you were younger, more happy and maybe freer with less problems.”
Bautista said that OFWs here in Dubai and the UAE will be in for a great Christmas treat at the ‘90s upload concert as the experience of listening to their favorite nostalgic tunes will bring back fond memories before 2018 ends. “Dahil malayo ang Dubai sa Pilipinas, so na-mi-miss ng mga kakabayan natin sa Dubai ang Pilipinas. Yung culture, barkadahan, shopping, mas lalo pag Christmas especially dito sa atin, September pa lang, Christmas na. I’m sure yung warmth and yung hospitality ng Filipino, na-mi-miss ng mga kababayan natin. That’s why we’re very excited to bring that same Christmas spirit and that same camaraderie and just having fun and enjoyment. We’re so excited to bring that over. We’ve had a series of successful shows here and this is in the Philippines. So ano pa kaya kung dalhin natin dyan kung saan sabik na sabik ang mga Pilipino na maka connect ulit sa motherland.
Glenn Jacinto also shared that this will be his second time to perform in Dubai with his band after his first concert last March of this year. “There were like 10,000 Pinoys. (it was) a sold out show with Pinoys singing along from first song to the last song. Pinoys were even crying when they heard the songs so I cannot wait to be there.
Bautista added that she connects with the experience of living abroad as she also lived in LA for quite a while after playing in her band. “Na-experience ko din yung malayo sa hometown. All of a sudden gusto mong (ma-experience) mga things that remind you of home. So I’m sure you’re going to enjoy our songs especially because not only will it bring back the ‘90s music, but it’s also gonna bring back original Filipino music,”
