Filipino-American singer RADHA was left in total shock when she found out that she had to sing a Mariah Carey hit song in front of the American diva herself.
Carey stepped in as the key adviser during the Knockout Rounds of the current season of “The Voice US” wherein RADHA is one of the contestants.
Contestants had their rehearsals while Carey was watching so that she could give her feedback afterwards.
While doing such is already nerve-wracking, RADHA felt extra pressure because she chose to sing Carey’s version of the Jackson 5 song “I’ll Be There”, hoping to impress the Songbird Supreme.
“I was genuinely in shock, because I then had to sing her rendition in front of her. Definitely an experience to cherish and remember,” Idol Chatter by Mark Franklin quoted the Fil-Am singer.
She said that she chose to sing the said song to show a different side of her as a performer.
“For the knockout rounds, I decided to choose ‘I’ll Be There’ because ballads are my roots. With Mariah Carey I mention, ‘To me it’s like an anthem, everyone knows the song.’ It’s a timeless song that reflects a piece of my childhood to the audience. For this time around I wanted to bring subtlety and sincerely with a Jackson 5 and Mariah Carey classic. I felt that I already established the fierce energy on stage during the blind auditions, so I wanted to show a warmer side of me,” she said.
During her performance, RADHA delivered a powerful rendition which earned a standing ovation from her coach, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
RADHA’s competitor during the Knockout rounds, Reagan Strange, then took her spot onstage to sing “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn.
At the end of their vocal battle, Levine chose Strange as the winner of the Knockout rounds.
Just when everyone thought it was the end for the Filipino singer, Levine decided to save her and keep her in the competition which will enable her to move on to the next round which is the Live Shows.
Viewers would have to wait for what’s in store for the Filipina singer and what will be her destiny in the said US reality singing competition.
