Fans took to social media to ask the new director of “Darna” to ditch the idea of making Liza Soberano wear a bikini for the role.
It was reported the Erik Matti, the movie’s original director, has decided to part ways due to “creative differences”.
A few days after Matti’s resignation, ABS-CBN announced that Jerrold Tarog, who is known for directing the films “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral”, will be taking over as the new director.
After Tarog took on the role, netizens reached out to him on social media asking him not to make Soberano wear a skimpy bikini costume for the film.
Netizens told the new director to stick to Matti’s original idea which was to give Soberano’s version of Darna a “warrior image”.
One netizen asked Tarog not to make Soberano’s costume “chippy-chippy” or “cheap-looking”, to which the director replied, “Will do my best. Yung costume, let’s see kung anong requirements ng may ari ng intellectual property”.
Tarog ended his tweet by throwing a joke.
“Also, masarap ang chippy although mas Tortillos akong tao,” he said referring to two brands of corn chips mainly sold in the Philippines.
Darna is known for sporting an iconic look which features a red and gold two-piece bikini with knee-high boots, gold bangles, and a helmet.
Nevertheless, Soberano said in an interview back in June 2017 that she has no problem with donning a sexy outfit for the iconic role.
Netizens would just have to wait on Soberano’s final look as Darna.
