Netizens, especially avid Sharon-Gabby fans, were left saddened after the iconic love team unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Last February, Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion reunited for a TV ad of a fast food chain, which immediately went viral online.
Speculations that the former married couple was sailing rough waters erupted after Sharon posted a quote on her social media account with a caption saying that she had lost a “lasting friendship”.
“Recent events have taken the wind out of my sails that I am sure you, my dearest friends and family, already understand why I have been MIA, avoiding messaging, e-mailing.”
“You will never know how much pain losing what I thought would be a lasting friendship this time has caused me. How can only all good intentions go wrong? I guess that’s life.”
“I never wanted to hurt anyone. I also certainly didn’t expect to be humiliated and hurt,” she said without mentioning specific details about her cryptic post.
“I just wanted a forever friend to keep for our beautiful child, and a beautiful movie. Minsan ayaw ng tadhana,” she added probably referring to her daughter with Gabby, KC Concepcion, and their cancelled reunion movie.
For his part, Gabby posted a quote attributed to Isaiah Hankel on Instagram last March 31 saying, “Don’t ever feel bad for making a decision about your own life that upsets other people. You are not responsible for their happiness. You’re responsible for your own happiness. Anyone who wants you to live in misery for their happiness should not be in your life to begin with.”
Fans were unsure if the quote Gabby posted was referring to Sharon.
But one fan with the Instagram handle @inspiredbysharoncuneta cannot help but disagree with Gabby and commented on the actor’s post saying, ““That is a beautiful quote but it is quite selfish too…We are still to be mindful that we don’t cause anyone misery.”
The comment has been deleted but a screenshot of it has been reposted by Sharon herself.
Sharon posted a quote on Instagram with a lengthy caption.
“It is one thing to be selfish and cause others misery. But it is another thing to fight for what has always been, and what is right, fair, long-accepted and respected.
“Also, it is wrong to bear false witness against thy neighbor, even in the stories you tell your fans and admirers. It is also wrong to lie. And someone should help those who are in denial about such important matters,” she said.
Amid the posting of quotes and cryptic messages, the two unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Sharon-Gabby love team became famous in the 1980s after they starred in a number of films together, like Dear Heart, P.S. I Love You, My Only Love, and Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?.
They got married in 1984 but separated three years later.
