Charice Pempengco’ decision to introduce himself to the world as Jake Zyrus was met with a mix of disapproval and admiration.
Formerly known as Charice Pempengco, the recording artist revealed his transgender male name when he changed his Twitter name to Jake Zyrus.
In an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda”, Jake talked about being a role model for those who found his journey inspiring.
“Ginagawa ko po ito para sa mga tao na hindi kayang gawin pa [ito]. Gusto ko pong maging inspirasyon para sa kanilang lahat,” he said during the interview.
(I am doing this for people who cannot do it at this time. I want to be an inspiration for them.)
The singer also has nothing but sweet words for his lola, wjho aired her disapproval of the name change.
“Lagi ko lang naman din pong sasabihin na mahal ko sila kahit na iba-ibang news man ‘yung makita nila, kahit na ano mang sabihin nila, ng lola ko, at the end of the day, we’re still family. I love them. I love you, guys,” ABS-CBN quoted the singer as saying.
