PH’s very own cherry blossoms bloom in Palawan

You do not need to fly to Japan or South Korea just to see real cherry blossoms. Just travel to Palawan and you get to see the iconic bloom of these soft pastel flowers as the spring equinox starts.

As if we need more reasons to visit and love Palawan, this island province seems to not have a shortage of ways to fascinate us. Throughout the month of March, the province is celebrating the blooming season of the “balayong,” known as Palawan cherry.

The tree is endemic to region IV-B province and over the years has been the symbol of beauty as well as love, reported ABS-CBN News.

For this year’s celebration, a plethora of activities was organized including a civic parade with residents sporting costumes made of “balayong.”

Some bikers, on the other hand, partook in a downslope biking contest. Puerto Princesa’s annual Ms. Puerto Princesa beauty pageant also took place as part of the month-long festivities.
