DUBAI: Filipinos in the UAE took the extra mile to throw their support to the Philippines’ bet in the Ms Universe 2016 pageant, Maxine Medina, getting up a lot earlier than usual at 4 am to watch the live streaming of the event, and still being proud of her despite the Q&A gaffe.
Medina only made it to the top six, but without doubt, she made Pinoys back here proud, despite several reactions on how she fared in the question and answer portion where she went on to reply in English despite the question having been translated in Filipino by an interpreter.
Medina was asked by host, Steve Harvey what she thinks is the most significant change she has seen in the world in the last 10 years.
To which she said, “The last 10 years of being here in the world is that I saw all the people being in one event like this in Miss Universe, and it’s something big to us that we are one, as one nation, we are all together.”
A netizen, Martina Apines posted on her FB wall while sharing a screenshot of the Q&A, “Moral of the story: Use your resources. Anjan na eh.”
Another netizen, Ejej Jae Aila posted Medina’s Q&A’s answer in his FB wall a caption, “K BYE.”
On the other hand, Jonathan Albarracin commented on TFT FB article post saying, “The Philippines answer is not that convincing. In fact, we do have quite a few key factors to consider as great changes or achievements in our country or as a whole nation for the last 10 years. Not this time for the Philippines but then, huge thanks to Maxine Medina for the effort – it’s not that easy to be part of Miss U Q&A.”
Brian Bryle de Gracia, an avid follower of Miss Universe has only good words for Medina, “Even though Maxine didn’t win and only placed in the top 6, we Filipinos must be grateful for her for what she achieved during the pageant. We know the fact that Maxine has a bit lacking in terms of her communication skills, but then she expressed herself the way she verbalize her thoughts during the moment,” he said.
Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere of France was hailed as the Miss Universe 2016.
