After winning the TFT Educator of the Year Award for 2016, Arlene Abe Pulido, learning and development manager at Al Tamimi and Company in Dubai, said she gained more friends and acquaintances that, in turn, broadened her network. She also got more involved in helping resolve OFW issues.
“I got busier and busier attending to different concerns of our kababayans. Attending to their queries and concerns related to employment issues, professional advancement, Microsoft office productivity skills, financial literacy concerns and others are regular matters that I attend to,” said Pulido.
“I am grateful that in my own little way, they value and appreciate any assistance or advices from my end. The most unforgettable query I got was related to investment and they asked for my legal advice thinking I am a lawyer but I am happy that their problem was solved and ended into a settlement,” she added.
Outside her corporate responsibilities, Pulido has also immersed herself in various community activities, as well as in answering random queries, delivering workshops across the UAE that are related to financial literacy and in random individual or group mentoring.
Pulido said she feels blessed and is grateful that TFT Awards has opened new doors of opportunities for her to help other OFWs.
“It validated my contributions in uplifting the morale, as well as professional and interpersonal skills of our kababayans. Also, I gained more respect and appreciation in the workplace because of this recognition,” she said.
“The TFT award taught me that it is not about the fame, gaining friends and increasing number of networks but most importantly the responsibilities associated with the award and serving and giving more to the community the best way I can. I would like to encourage TFT winners and nominees to come up with projects that will support and help the TFT organization in valuing Filipino excellence,” said Pulido.
