Only a few months since its inception, the ladies who constituted the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ladies Circle – Abu Dhabi (ALC – Abu Dhabi), are already busy with their respective duties in the circle, as the group presses on towards its goal of promoting camaraderie and friendship among ASEAN member-countries represented in the UAE, cultural diplomacy and strengthen the role of women in society as a whole.
The group already held its first and second meetings on May 23 and July 2 respectively, headed by ALC-Abu Dhabi chairperson, Yoko Ramos-Vingno, spouse of Philippine ambassador to the UAE, Constancio R. Vingno, Jr., with the support of other ALC officers – Vice Chair Farida Husin Bagis, spouse of Indonesian ambassador to the UAE; Secretary Alice Ho Tan, spouse of Singaporean ambassador to the UAE; head of membership committee, Shamsinar Ahmad Bashir, spouse of the Malaysian Deputy Chief of Mission; and head of events, Madame Viphawan Oh Benniman, Thai Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission; ALC members and other members of the Philippine Ladies’ Circle – Abu Dhabi.
The group has also held its very first charity drive, by giving some donations to Future Rehabilitation Center on June 22.
Established in 2000 and formerly known as Future Center for Special Needs, the Future Rehabilitation Center aims to empower children with various disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, physical disabilities, speech and language disorders, mental disabilities, and multiple disabilities by improving them with therapy services and education.
