The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is encouraging overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were affected by the runway closure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last week to claim financial aid worth P5,000.
DFA said that they will be accepting application for the said financial assistance until August 31 for affected OFWs who are still in the Philippines. They may claim the monetary aid at the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs at the third floor of the DFA Building in Pasay City.
Meanwhile, OFWs who have also been affected by the airport fiasco but are no longer in the Philippines can still claim the financial aid by going to the nearest Philippine embassy or consulate until September 30.
Those who wish to claim the financial assistance should make a personal appearance and present their airline ticket with the original date of the flight, reissued ticket with the date of their rescheduled flight, employment contract, and overseas employment certificate.
As of Friday, DFA reported that a total 962 OFWs have already benefited from the financial aid offered by the Philippine government.
The government agency said that they released P4.8 million to provide financial assistance to OFWs who got stranded at NAIA following a runway mishap.
Previous report stated that a Xiamen airlines aircraft ripped off one of its engines resulting in multiple cancellation of flights because the runway was blocked off at NAIA.
Due to the incident, many passengers were left stranded at the airport and some overseas Filipino workers even feared of losing their employment because they were not able to board their flights.
