PH repatriates over 600,000 OFWs in 12 months

More than 600,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who were displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic since May 2020, have been repatriated by the Philippine government.

Another lot of 70,000 to 130,000 OFWs are likely to be repatriated soon, It doesn’t include Filipinos who regularly go home during vacations.

According to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, around 612,000 Filipinos have been repatriated to their respective home provinces.

Cacdac highlighted that the agency will seek more funds, stressing that their current funds will only last until September.

“We have received a replenishment of Php5.2 billion which will be good until the end of the third quarter. It was approved by President Rodrigo Duterte through the Department of Budget and Management. We’re good until September,” Cacdac reportedly said.

Cacdac further said that about 100 OFWs have already availed of the new seven-day special quarantine period protocol approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force for those coming from 57 green listed nations. (AW)
