UST’s Marvin Lee to train eyes on MPBL

MANILA, Philippines – The UST Growling Tigers’ veteran point guard Marvin Lee is now set to sit out Season 82 of UAAP men’s basketball this year with eyes focused on MPBL.

According to a Rappler report, head coach Aldin Ayo has advised Lee to turn his focus to the MPBL’s Manila Stars for the Lakan Cup to further hone his skills.

“I advised Marvin to focus on the MPBL. We already have a lot of point guards,” the second-year tactician was quoted in the Rappler report as saying after their loss against UP in the FilOil Preseason Cup. “We have Renzo [Subido], we have Mark Nonoy, we have Mahloney Tarranza. Brent [Paraiso] also plays point. We already have a lot of small guys.”

However, the champion coach also disclosed that UST’s outgoing captain will still represent the team on campus.

“I told him na ayaw ko namang sa last year mo, uupo ka. Kaya he will now pursue playing in the MPBL. But he also has to finish his studies first. May scholarship pa rin siya sa UST,” said Ayo.

In what turned out to be his swan song season last year, Lee averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals playing alongside other standout guards like Subido and CJ Cansino.
