Duterte orders all gov’t agencies to brace for Typhoon Tisoy

President Rodrigo Duterte instructed all government agencies to be on standby and on alert for Typhoon Tisoy, which is set to make landfall on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the government is on top of preparations for the storm.

Bicol region is expected to be the hardest hit by the typhoon’s wrath. Tens of thousands have been evacuated.

“The President has already directed all agencies to be alert and to perform all the measures that have been prepared in the event of a storm coming,” Panelo said.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared P2 billion in relief goods and funds.

Malacañang also asked the public to stay vigilant and follow government preparations and evacuations.

“We ask the public, especially residents who will be affected by the typhoon to stay vigilant, check the latest weather advisory in their respective areas through government social media accounts and coordinate with their local disaster and risk reduction management offices for appropriate and responsive action,” he added.

Typhoon Tisoy is the 20th storm to hit the country this year.

Typhoon Kammuri, known locally as Tisoy, is expected to strengthen to the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane by Tuesday morning Philippine time and make landfall in southeastern Luzon, the country’s largest and most populous island, CNN reported.

The storm is packing winds of 150 kilometers per hour, but those are expected to speed up to 185 kph, the news network added.
