Garnering international attention for being supposedly a “superfood” rich in nutrients and minerals is Malunggay, or moringa a well-known backyard plant in the Philippines.
And it might be true with the Moringaling Phlippines Foundation, Inc. (MPFI) revealing results of studies showing that a pound of Malunggay has seven times more Vitamin C than oranges, three times more potassium that bananas, four times more Vitamin A than carrots, two times more protein and four times more calcium than milk. Malunggay is also supposedly rich in antioxidants that can prevent several lifestyle-related ailments including a variety of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Best thing about it is that Malunggay is easy to cultivate as it lives on very little water.
In fact, if taken care of properly, the Malunggay tree can live up to a hundred years. The Malunggay leaf could be used as garnish in various dishes even salads. A healthy Malunggay tree can produce about half a kilogram of leaves every two months.
