One of the seven sailors killed in a collision of a U.S. naval ship and a Philippine-registered cargo vessel in Japan is a Filipino, the U.S. Navy said.
The Filipino fatality’s name is Fire Controlman 2nd Class Carlosvictor Ganzon Sibayan.
Sibayan is from Chula Vista, California and has been in the U.S. Navy for four years, ABS-CBN News reported.
His remains along with that of six other American sailors were located at the flooded compartments of the USS Fitzgerald Sunday morning.
The naval ship took in water after the collision with the ACX Crystal in Japanese waters on Saturday.
The ACX Crystal had 20 Filipino crew members, but all were not harmed in the accident.
