Sen. Francis Escudero, the chairman of the Senate committee on banks, has scheduled a legislative inquiry into the system problems encountered by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and BDO Unibank Inc.
Cases of potentially compromised BDO ATMs were reported a week after BPI experienced a glitch in their system that caused card holders of both banks to lose money.
The senate committee will hold a hearing on June 21, Wednesday, to determine the facts behind the reports and inform the public about the security of the entire banking system.
“The matter of security and integrity of our banking sector has now become an urgent topic to examine and be transparent about,” Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said on Friday.
