The Metro Manila Police are suspending the government’s war on drugs campaign called ‘Oplan Tokhang’.
Metro Manila Police Chief Debold Sinas announced the suspension in a press briefing because they are now focusing their efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“Wala na muna po yung Oplan Tokhang. We are momentarily silent on that. Kasi ang focus ay sa quarantine,” Sinas said in a media briefing.
Oplan Tokhang is the controversial drug war campaign of the Duterte administration, where authorities visit the homes of suspected drug users.
“Pagbigyan muna natin sila. Kung nasa loob ka, wala ka namang makuhang supply,” he said.
The campaign became infamous because of the so-called extra-judicial killings.
“Kasi supposedly nasa bahay lang ang mga ‘yan. Ayaw namin dagdagan yung sama ng loob ng mga tao muna,” Sinas added.
