The Department of Justice (DOJ) said a special team of immigration officers will be tasked to handle overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning from China.
“We are constituting a special team that will handle the immigration formalities of repatriated OFWs from China,” DOJ spokesperson Undersecretary Markk Perete told ABS-CBN News.
These set of immigration officers were trained by Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) on infection control measures.
Perete added that the immigration officers will be equipped with necessary protective gear.
The Bureau of Immigration clarified that Department of Health and BOQ will still be at the forefront of screening passengers.
Any passenger who will manifest symptoms of the novel coronavirus will not pass through the immigration procedures and will be isolated.
Meanwhile, two chartered flights are on standby in Hubei province to repatriate OFWs.
However, returning Filipinos will be quarantined upon arrival as part of preventive measures against novel coronavirus.
