The Philippine and the Tunisian governments are closely working together to resolve the flight of overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
The Chief Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Relations Robert Borje paid a courtesy call on Tunisian Acting Foreign Minister Sabri Bachtobji in Tunis on Dec 20, reported PNA.
The Philippine Government lauded the Tunisian government for its crucial role by assisting the Filipinos who were affected by the growing violence in North Africa especially in Libya.
“Through his representative, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his gratitude to Tunisia for assisting Filipinos exiting Libya,” Malacañang said.
“Both the Philippines and Tunisia were firming up plans for the milestone anniversary commemoration in 2020,” it added.
“The Philippines will continue supporting Tunisia when it becomes a member-state of the UN security body for two years beginning January 2020.” Borge said.
Tunisia is a strategic location along with Malta and Egypt. It is a major exit point for Filipinos escaping Libya.
