Over 150 children in India reportedly died due to “brain fever” linked to a toxic substance found in unripe lychee fruit.
According to the health official in India as per Agence-France-Presse’s report, at least 152 children died from acute encephalitis syndrome in Bijar state in Easter India.
Experts explained that the disease causes glucose levels to plummet and brain inflammation, especially in malnourished children. It was later identified that the center of the outbreak is in Muzaffarpur district which lychees are widely grown.
It was learned that an investigation is ongoing especially that a decade ago there were more than 1, 359 children who died from the same disease that they got from unripe lychees.
