Students to get free train rides, free terminal fees starting July

The Transportation Department has announced that students will now get free rides at railways in specific times starting July 1.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said that students will only need to show their identification cards to avail the free rides.

Free Light Rail Transit (LRT) rides will start at 4:30AM to 6AM and 3PM to 4:30PM.

Free rides will be for LRT Line 2 only.

Metro Rail Transit Line 3 or MRT3 free rides can be availed from 5-6:30AM and 3-4:30PM.

Philippine National Railways will be from 5-6AM and 3-4PM.

Students will also get an ‘anti-cut off pass’ which means that they will not be offloaded even if the train is full.

Terminal fees for airports and seaports will also be waived.

“Bakit nga ba binibigyan natin ng oras ang libreng pamasahe? Dahil hinihikayat nating pumasok ng maaga sa paaralan ang mga estudyante kapalit nyan ay libreng pamasahe,” Tugade said.

Elementary, high school, college and vocational courses students can avail these benefits.
