The Abu Dhabi Municipality has begun carrying out surprise inspections with around 40 inspectors spread out within the city and across the emirate to ensure that all salons, beauty parlours, and cosmetic centres comply to the health rules during and beyond Ramadan.
Salon owners caught violating the health and hygiene rules may be fined up to Dh 5,000.
The inspectors’ checklist for each salon include checking if the cosmetics being used are already expired, monitoring any harmful substances or products being used, as well as lack of personal protective equipment and uniform.
Among the common offenses include the use of blended, black henna or dye on customers, improper product storage, lack of product labels specifically on herbal products, use of dirty, non-sterilized towels, and use of fake/expired cosmetic products.
“Black henna, a variation of the natural dye, is harmful to women’s bodies as it can trigger severe allergic reactions,” said municipal officials as per a report from Khaleej Times. The Abu Dhabi Municipality likewise said that they regularly conduct awareness drives intended for business owners to make sure that their practices adhere to the standards as per the UAE law.
