Manila, Philippines — Reelectionist and senatorial race frontrunner Cynthia Villar says she has no plans of running for presidency in 2022.
Villar tops the senatorial race with 24,565,351 votes as of Tuesday evening. Grace Poe ranks second with 21,476, 152. Villar overtakes Poe in recent preelection surveys.
“Ako hindi ko pa iniisip yan. I’m not going to exert any effort to be a President. I’m really convinced you can work hard, makukuha mo sa sipag at tiyaga ang pagiging Senador pero ang pagiging presidente is destiny. I really believe that,” Villar explained.
Villar’s husband Manny Villar ran for Presidency in 2010 but lost to former President Noynoy Aquino.
The lady senator is open on the possibility of being a Senate President but she would rather focus on her current committees instead.
Villar was backed by both PDP-Laban and Hugpong ng Pagbabago during her campaign.
Her son, Mark Villar, is the current Public Works and Highways Secretary. Her daughter, Camille Villar was proclaimed Las Piñas congressman.
Villar’s husband Manny is the current richest man in the Philippines.
