Filipino professor in Dubai promotes mental health among OFWs

A multi-awarded Filipino professor of human resource management at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) recently conducted counseling session for 300 distressed overseas Filipino workers at the Philippine Consulate in Dubai.

Dr. Rommel Sergio, recipient of the Philippine Presidential Award for Filipino Individuals Overseas and Educator of the Year of The Filipino Times Awards, and his team of Filipino psychologists and counsellors conducted recreational activities and group counselling sessions for Filipino Household Service Workers to help them overcome personal issues and promote mental health.

“Our abilities are futile if we do not use them for the benefit of the community. Teaching minds and conducting research are not the cornerstones of education alone, we should also help others through community engagement,” said Sergio, chair of the Human Resource Management Program of the School of Business Administration of CUD.
