The families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Ilocos Norte flocked to the province’s capital on Tuesday, September 25, to receive the financial assistance given by the Philippine government following the onslaught of supertyphoon Ompong.
Geraldine Salazar, Labor Communication Officer of OWWA Region 1, said that the families received Php1,500 (non-active members) or Php3,000 (active members) calamity assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), reported PNA.
Families from hardest-hit areas of Batac, Currimao will be receiving the financial assistance from September 25 to September 28 while those from Pagudpud can claim their assistance from October 4 to October 5.
Those eligible for the calamity relief assistance are OFWs, OFWs’ next of kin such as spouse or children of an unmarried OFW who is of legal age, guardian of an OFW’s minor child, parents of an unmarried OFW, and a sibling of an unmarried OFW.
Families need to present a valid ID and an authorization letter to prove their relationship to an OFW.
