Senator pushes creation of Department of OFWs

Senator Joel Villanueva has renewed the need for the creation of a department for overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

The creation of such department would better inform families of OFWs about the rights they are entitled to, said the senator.

He explained that services and information concerning OFWs are scattered throughout several offices, making the process tedious.

He added that a separate department will be beneficial to undocumented Filipino workers as well.

“It has become a desperate necessity that we provide for the institution of an entity that will orchestrate our efforts and policies, which unfortunately have become fragmented, to the detriment of OFWs welfare,” the senator said in a statement.

Villanueva clarified that the proposal does not push Filipinos to go out and work overseas but will establish an agency “para lamang sa ating mga Bagong Bayaning nagsasakripisyo para sa kapakanan ng pamilya at bayan.”
