Authorities nabbed the woman who helped an overseas Filipino worker from Dubai abort her baby when the latter returned to the Philippines.
The suspect, 57-year-old Luzviminda Tibay, admitted to the crime, saying the OFW, identified as 32-year-old Nelia Sotelo, flew all the way to the Philippines from Dubai to have her baby aborted because of her fear that she will get deported since her contract states that she cannot get pregnant, reported ABS-CBN News.
The same report stated that Tibay and Sotelo only met on social media, and that the former asked P10,000 from the OFW as payment for the abortion procedure.
Sotelo, accompanied by Catherine San Jose, booked an appointment with Tibay scheduled on July 10. They checked in at Hotel 99 in Quiapo, Manila where the suspect performed the procedure.
Tibay said that she gave a medicine to Sotelo that will help abort the baby.
The OFW started bleeding after taking the medicine, which the suspect admitted was only purchased from a random store in Quiapo.
Police documents stated that Sotelo was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Center where she was pronounced dead-on-arrival after suffering from septic shock and blood profusion due to induced abortion.
Authorities also said that it was easy to track Tibay down since she is a known abortionist in the area.
Tibay will face charges of intentional abortion and reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
