PH embassy still checking for Filipino casualties in Germany ‘van attack’

The Philippine Embassy in Berlin is still checking if there are Filipinos hurt after a van rammed into a restaurant in Muenster, Germany.

Embassy Chargè d’Affaires Lilibeth Pono said they have requested the Philippine Honorary Consul in Essen, Heinz-Peter Heidrich, to coordinate with police authorities in Muenster for developments in the investigation.

Pono said they want to assure no one among the 4,100 Filipinos living in the area were hurt.

Pono also called for Filipinos in the area to coordinate with the Embassy if they know of any Filipinos embroiled in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advised Filipinos in Germany to remain vigilant after the incident.

On Sunday, April 8, German driver Jens R. drove a van straight into Grosser Kiepenkerl Restaurant, killing two people and leaving 20 individuals injured, 10 of which were considered severely injured.

The driver then shot himself inside the van.

Police have already ruled out terrorism. Several reports claim the driver had mental and psychological issues which could have been the cause of the incident.
