Duterte exec urges public to stop picking on celeb appointees

MANILA: Communications Secretary Martin Andanar have asked the public to respect President Rodrigo Duterte’s “presidential prerogative” in choosing who he wants to help govern the country. The president has been getting a lot of feedback regarding his decision to appoint celebrities as part of his administration.

The most recent appointment that people are talking about is singer Freddie Aguilar who was said to be the incoming chair for the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Singer Jimmy Bondoc and comedian Arnel Ignacio were both appointed to Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR). TV host Kat De Castro was named tourism undersecretary, reported Inquirer.net.

“If the President wishes to appoint anyone that (he) deems credible, then we leave the wisdom behind those (appointments) to the President. I am sure many of us Filipinos understand what we call presidential prerogative,” said Andanar.

On related news, Brillante Mendoza will be filming the President’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA). The esteemed director is doing it for free, the report said.
