DUBAI: More than 40 Filipinos are currently in UAE jails over drug-related charges, according to a report on Balitanghali.
These Filipinos are incarcerated in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates, GMA News quoted the report. Under UAE laws, drug convicts are usually sentenced up to 25 years of imprisonment.
The report quoted Consul General Paul Raymond Cortes as saying that despite their repeated warnings, many Filipinos in the UAE still choose to use or sell illegal drugs.
