The San Miguel Beermen needed two overtime periods before pulling off a lung-busting 127-125 win over the TNT KaTropa in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best-of-Three Finals last Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen tied the series at 1-all, getting huge breaks down the stretch that allowed them to recover from their 96-109 Game 1 loss.
San Miguel squandered a 17-point lead but still found a way to escape when the KaTropa shot themselves in the foot after missing crucial free throws in the critical stretch game.
TNT import Terrence Jones was ejected in the final 21 seconds of the first overtime, while Brian Heruela and Troy Rosario bungled crucial free throws in the dying moments, enabling the Beermen to steal the win.
Chris McCullough led the Beermen with had 32 points, 22 rebounds and seven assists. Terrence Romeo added 29 markers, Chris Ross pitched in 25, Alex Cabagnot donated 19,while June Mar Fajardo tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Rosario scored a career-high 34 points for the KaTropa but fouled out in the 1:15 of the second OT.
Jones finished with 28 points, 13 boards, seven assists, five steals and three blocked shots.
