A landslide struck Monkayo, Davao de Oro, Philippines last January 18, 2024, which claimed 11 lives including the Gumatin family — an entire family wiped out.

They were attending a prayer meeting until the ground collapsed which claimed the lives of the following: Catherine Gumatin; Hannah Gumatin; Dysna Gumatin; Arjay Gumatin; Cristelle Gumatin; Ailee Gumatin; Marjomie Nenaria; Ritchell Reboldad; Agnes Bon; and Elvera Saldua.

Recently, the body of the father, Rommel Gumatin, was also found by the rescuers.

On January 20, Vice President Sara Duterte along with Mayor Manuel “Way Kurat” E. Zamora, visited their wake and paid sympathies to the grieving family and friends of the Gumati family and those who were affected by the landslide. She also gave the families 12 sack of rice and cash assistance.

As of yesterday, the Municipality of Monkayo have been doing clearing operations on the affected areas of the landslide.
