Members of progressive groups here took out protests on Labor Day in Cebu in support of measures to protect the welfare of workers.
Jaime Paglinawan of BAYAN Central Visayas urged members of the labor sector to unite for wage increases in Cebu and other parts of Central Visayas.
“Kinahanglang magkahiusa aron depensahan ang katungod sa mamumuo para sa makabuhi nga suhulan og kasiguraduhan sa trabaho,” Paglinawan said.

Paglinawan and members of progressive groups assembled near the Fuente Osmeña Circle at about 10 a.m. and walked to downtown Cebu City and ended the march at the corner of Osmeña Boulevard and Colon Street.
Members of the Alyansa sa mga Mamumuo sa Sugbo, BAYAN-Central Visayas, Piston, AnakBayan, Kilusang Mangbubukid sa Pilipinas Cebu, Gabriela, and urban poor groups also took part.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), deputy director for operations, said no untoward incident was witnessed. Parilla said, they expected more rallies to be held later in the day.
