OFWs in Bahrain call on PH to include Gulf country in COVID-19 ‘green list’

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom of Bahrain have sought that the country should be included in the COVID-19 green list by the Philippines.

The OFWs called on the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to include their host government in the “green list”, said the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo).

Labor Attaché to Bahrain Vicente Cabe said many OFWs have been asking them to lobby with the Philippine government to have Bahrain included in the “green list”.

Cabe said that cases are already low in Bahrain and many OFWs “expect and hope that the IATF will include Bahrain in the green list so that OFWs will have an easier time when they come home.”

Bahrain is currently on the “yellow list.”

Cabe said there are an estimated 49,000 OFWs currently based in Bahrain. (AW)
