No Filipinos affected yet from 7.2 quake in Haiti – DFA

As the death toll in the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Haiti on Saturday climbs to 1,297, the Department of Foreign Affairs said that no Filipinos were reportedly affected by the quake.

“Based on initial reports from contacts in Haiti – no Filipino has been affected by the earthquake. Monitoring is ongoing,” DFA said in a message to reporters.

On Monday, rescuers desperately dug through collapsed buildings for survivors in the Caribbean nation.

The country is still reeling from its president’s assassination.

The 7.2 quake struck about 100 miles to the west of the densely populated capital Port-au-Prince, which was devastated in a massive 2010 quake.

Around 13,600 buildings were destroyed while 13,700 were damaged.

Some 5,700 people were reportedly injured. (TDT)
