Galvez: Qatar eyes vaccine donation to Filipino Muslims

Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez said that Qatar is planning to donate Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines to the Filipino Muslim community.

“We’re looking at the possibility sa diplomatic relations natin sa Qatar. Maganda ang relations natin and they wanted to donate Sinovac for our Muslim brothers,” Galvez said in an interview on ABS-CBN News on Friday.

The official did not reveal the number of vaccine donations from Qatar but he said that the Muslim population in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is around 2.8 million.

Malacañang says that the country has achieved a vaccination milestone after 10 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“We have reached a very important milestone in our national vaccination program,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said.

“Kung dati-rati po, nagkukumahog kung saan kukuha ng bakuna, ngayon po meron nang 10 milyong Pilipino na meron nang full protection laban sa kalaban natin na COVID-19,” he added.

Metro Manila will ramp up its vaccination drive after receiving 4 million additional doses during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ.

“Sasamantalahin natin ang ECQ para lalo pa nating mapabilis po ang pagbabakuna,” Roque added.
