The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) has said that four new cases of COVID-19’s Delta variant have been detected in the Western Visayas region.
Dr. Adriano Suba-an, DOH’s regional director in Western Visayas, said that the results of the four additional cases were released by the Philippine Genome Center (PGC). The fresh cases have brought the number of confirmed cases of Delta variant in Western Visayas to six.
The new cases include a 59-year-old woman in Antique province who was a close contact of a married couple of first two confirmed cases of Delta variants in Western Visayas. The woman who was admitted at Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), the DOH-run hospital in Iloilo City last July 8 has been discharged and is in home quarantine.

A 30-year-old man from Iloilo City is the second confirmed Delta variant case and the person had sought medical consultation at WVMC on July 8 after experiencing chills and fever. He underwent swab testing and the result came out the next day.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the man had no travel history and his wife also tested positive for COVID-19 and her specimen was awaiting from PGC.
A 32-year-old woman from Cabatuan town, Iloilo province, remains the third confirmed case of Delta variant. The woman who had kidney problems died Thursday, July 29.

Acting chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, Dr. Ma. Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, said that the woman was admitted at WVMC last June 27 as a dialysis patient and tested positive for COVID-19 more than a week later. After being discharged, she was later readmitted on July 27 as she experienced difficulty in breathing at that time.
Western Visayas’ fourth confirmed Delta case is a 46-year-old returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), who is currently in Metro Manila. The DOH tagged the case to Western Visayas as the returning OFW and the man previously tested positive for COVID-19 in Spain. (AW)
