Phone scam lures woman into getting AED 160,000 loan

Two phone scammers, pretending to be bank employees, defrauded a woman and secured a bank loan of AED 160,000 in her name.

The woman recalled that the two claimed that they were working for the bank when they gave her a call.

They reportedly asked her to update her personal details so that her ‘banking services’ are not affected. The woman reportedly shared her banking details, including a one-time password.

The defendants then secured a loan of Dh160,000 in her name and transferred the amount to two bank accounts.

The police have warned the residents to be vigilant and avoid sharing bank account details.

In a similar incident in May this year, a scammer robbed a young Emirati of all his life savings following a seven-minute phone call. (AW)
