The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHaP) reiterated that getting COVID-19 shots is not mandatory for citizens and residents of the UAE.
However, elderly people are urged to get vaccinated because they belong to the age group with high risk of contracting COVID-19.
MoHaP released the statement after the agency got bombarded with queries whether the vaccination would be optional or not, according to a report of Gulf Today.
The Ministry also explained that mild side effects in some cases are expected, but they would go away with treatment. They include fever, headache, or fatigue.
For an effective immunity from COVID-19, MoHaP said the two doses of COVID-19 vaccine must be taken, in between period of 21 to 28 days.
